Pretoria via Sun City and Mabula to Cape Town

On arrival in Johannesburg you’ll be whisked off to Pretoria for an orientation tour,  to see South Africa’s administrative centre and once the heart of the apartheid regime, continue on to the North West Province for an a wealth of entertainment at Sun City Resort and an optional game drive.  You’ll then travel to Mabula Game Lodge for 2 unforgettable nights and experience the African bushveld to your heart’s content.

A quick 2-hour flight takes you to Cape Town, where you’ll be staying for 3 days.  Your days will be filled with a Cape Town City tour, where you will step into the rich history of the city and view key historical monuments and places of interest.   Your Peninsula tour will take you further afield; visit Duiker Island by boat, see Cape Point Nature Reserve, eventually stopping at lush Kirstenbosch Botanical gardens.

ITINERARY

Day 1

Upon arrival at O R Tambo International Airport you will be met by your guide, welcoming you to the urban landscape of Johannesburg.  Continue on to Pretoria with an orientation tour.

Pretoria is South Africa’s administrative centre and is known for being an attractive city with leafy suburbs an din October and November each year, the city takes on a purple hue as the jacarandas blossom.  It is widely considered less cosmopolital than the city of gold, Johannesburg, but nonetheless has an impressive range of bards and restaurants that serve delicious local cuisine and the atmosphere is one of welcoming South African hospitality.  Pretoria was once the heart of the apartheid regime and since those dark days in South African history, the city has thrived in its diversity and creation of the rainmow nation.

Voortrekker Monument The huge granite Voortrekker Monument stands proud on a hilltop in the south of Pretoria.  This National Heritage site was built to commemorate and honour the Voortrekkers who left the Cape Colony between 1835 and 1854.  The entire building tells the story of the Voortrekkers, with large statues and life-like engravings on the wall.  The architect Gerard Moerdijk was a supporter of advanced, yet ancient Eqyptian architecture and many feature of the monument pay tribure to the almost “heavenly” features of ancient Eqytptian structures with natural sun rays, large indoor spaces and an underground vault.  A large Cenotaph lies at the centre of the monument, with an illuminating sun disc that lights up the wording of the Cenotaph when the sun aligns in the right way.

Accommodation is at the Premier Hotel Pretoria, which includes dinner and breakfast.  The Premier Hotel Pretoria is located opposite the Union Buildings with views of the city and the well known jacaranda dotted streets.  The hotel offers a range of facilities from a fully equipped business centre and outdoor swimming pool to a swanky cocktail bar, lounge and a gourmet restaurant.  This is luxury hotel living in South Africa’s capital city.  The Ambassador Restaurant boasts a particularly extensive and impressive wine list and dining is an elegant affair.

Day 2

Enjoy a delicious breakfast before departing on an approximate 3-hour drive to Sun City, where entertainment is the order of the day.  Restaurants, bars, sports, the Valley of the Waves, shopping, casino and adventure will keep you entertained.

Lunch stop en-route.

With the Pilanesberg National Park located next to Sun City, depart on an optional afternoon game drive, exploring the 55 000 hectare Big 5 game reserve in search of Africa’s amazing wildlife.

Return to Sun City for dinner and an evening of leisure.

Accommodation is at The Palace At Sun City, which includes breakfast and complimentary entry into the Valley of Waves and shuttle service within the resort.  The Palace is and African fantasy palace that indulges, inspires and is a grand affair.  The architecture is bold and the African influence is seen in everything from elephant fountains to the hand-crafted furniture that adorns the resort.  The Palace is set in an emerald green jungle landscape and makes you feel as though you have been plucked from the real world and placed into a wild adventure.  The Valley of Waves is one of the many highlights at the Palace.  It is an idyllic beach cove that creates its own waves surrounded by bush landscape .  The Grand Pool beckons with sun kisses and cocktails as you relax in one of Africa’s most envied destinations.

Day 3 

Depart for the 12 000 hectare Mabula Game Reserve located in the malaria-free Waterberg region of the Limpopo Province where the African bushveld awaits for a 2-night stay.  Enjoy lunch upon arrival followed by your first game drive.

Accommodation from day 3 to 5 is at Mabula Game Lodge, on a Full Board plus 2 Activities basis.    Located in a malaria-free private game reserve two hours drive north of Johannesburg, Mabula Game Lodge offers an outstanding Big 5 safari experience to discerning guests looking for upmarket accommodation in stunning surrounds.  Accommodation is in 47 rooms, including three suites and the two family rooms, which provide every comfort needed for an unforgettable stay.  The expansive reserve is home to an abundance of wildlife and over 300 bird species that can be viewed on day and night game drives as well as bush walks.  Horseback safaris and quad-biking are other ways to get into nature for a close-up wildlife experience.  Paintball and archery are also on offer.  Two swimming pools, volleyball court and action cricket are just some of the sporting facilities available to guests.  The lodge is known for its excellent cuisine, which can be enjoyed in a variety of settings, from the formal lodge restaurant to under the African night sky accompanied by drummers and traditional dancers.  Guests are welcome to indulge in exotic spa treatments a the on-site centre.

Day 4  

Enjoy a full day of game viewing with a morning and afternoon game crive included in your stay.  Look out for over 60 mammal and 300 bird species.

As an optional extra, consider pre-booking an exciting morning Balloon Safari for an aerial view over the reserve and an opportunity to spot wildlife from above.

Day 5  

After your morning game drive and a scrumptious breakfast, rturn to Johannesburg for you ronward flight to Cape Town.

Cape Town is addictive and inspires discovery.  It has been voted as the best place in the world to visit by the prestigious New York Times.  This vibrant multicultural city is a healthy mix of urban and convenient living, vibey day and night sports, nature and relaxation as well as the ocean and white sandy beaches at your fingertips.  Ride the revolving cable car to the sky on Table Mountain; shop at the V&A Waterfront, one of Africa’s premier shopping destinations; stand on the edge of the world at CApe Point or delve into South AFrica’s past at Robben Island, the prison that once hold one of the world’s greatest heroes, Nelson Mandela.  The “Mother City”, the “Green City’, the “Tavern of the Seas”… whatever name you give it, it remains beautiful and beckons to be explored – the more the better!

Accommodation from day 5 to 8 is at Premier Hotel Cape Town, on a bed and breakfast basis.   The Premier Hotel Cape Town is close to the Sea Point Promenade and has views of mountain and ocean.  This exclusive Cape Town hotel is on the doorstep of some of Cape Town’s most famous attractions including the blue flag beaches of Camps Bay and Clifton as well as the premier shopping destination, the V&A Waterfront.  It has a swimming pool and its own restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily.  The restaurant leads out onto an outdoor patios and is an relaxing space to enjoy good food with a pristine view.

Day 6  

Depart after breakfast on a guided tour of the Mother City and enjoy the afternoon at leisure for some shopping time at the V&A Waterfront.

Cape Town City Tour:  Explore South Africa’s exciting “Mother City” on this guided tour of the historical and cultural sights of Cape Town.  You will step into the rich history of the city passing by key historical monuments and places of interest, such as the impressive Castle of Good Hope and Cape Town City Hall.  The tour stops at the beautiful St George’s Cathedral, passes through the lush Company Gardens, and explores a cultural hub of Cape Town, the Bo-Kaap, also known as the Cape Malay quarter.  A tour of this vibrant city, home to street markets of every kind, cosmopolitan and rustic eateries and a host of cultures is an unforgettable experience.

Day 7  

Early morning departure exploring the Cape Peninsula

Cape Peninsula Tour:  This full-day tour explores Cape Town’s stunning peninsula moving through the vibrant coastal suburb of Sea Point with its famous promenade and onto the upmarket, pristine beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay.  The scenic road winds its way to Hout Bay where a boat trip to Duiker Island, home to thousands of seals, is possible before heading onto the famous Cape Point Nature Reserve at the very tip of the peninsula.  The road twists its way to a penguin colony that has made Simon’s Town home, and then through the eclectic fishing village of Kalk Bay and surfer heaven Muizenberg before stopping at the lush Kirstenbosch Botanical gardens.  Lunch will be enjoyed en-route.

Day 8  

After breakfast, depart for Cape Town International Airport where your guide will bid farewell before continuing with your onward travel arrangements.
