MPUMALANGA, previously known as the Eastern Transvaal, expands almost 80 000 square kilometres of what some call God's own country. This area, from its rolling highlands to the lofty escarpment and lush wetlands, was created for the explorer. Mpumalanga is a nature lover's paradise, boasting South Africa's premier fly-fishing mecca, some of the sub-continent's rarest birds, the best rock climbing, and the most spectacular wild flower displays. Paradise that is to be found only two-hours away from the metropolitan centres of Gauteng and Mozambique.
The Panoramic route boasts breathtaking views of natural wonders along the eastern slopes of the escarpment, including God's Window and the Blyde River Canyon which is the world's third largest canyon. Other well-known attractions are Bourke's Luck Potholes and Three Rondavels. The towns of Lydenburg and White River are gateways to the route that takes visitors through quaint Pilgrim's Rest, a living museum dating back to the hey days of the gold rush, as well as Sabie, Graskop, Ohrigstad and Hazyview.
The Kruger National Park is an enormous nature reserve that stretches three hundred and fifty kilometres along the Mozambican border and is, on average, sixty kilometres wide. The greater Kruger Park area, including the wildlife areas around it, offers the visitor a truly unique African experience. Fencing has been removed between most of the game reserves bordering the Kruger National Park to allow animals to roam free and migrate. Almost all the game reserves in this area carry the famous big 5 - Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino and Buffalo. The greater Kruger park area offers a range of accommodation, from the rough challenge of basic camping to five star luxury. Whatever your preferred lifestyle, you will enjoy an unforgettable stay.
